What is a Memphicago, and who is the Salem Footbag Club?

In 2007, CLCK members Scot Hansen and Cory Current made a pact with Memphis Footworks members Walt Houston and Ben Alston. They realized that they would all get better if they had more opportunities to train together. Since they only lived about 8-9 hours away from each other, it was agreed: they would find a central location and meet to kick as often as possible.

Thus, the Salem Footbag Club was born. Located on I-57 in the middle of nowhere, Salem, Illinois is a sleepy little town of about 10,000 people, and the birthplace and childhood home of William Jennings Bryan, the silver-tongued orator. (Google him- he was a pretty cool dude.)

The newly-formed joint venture between Chicago and Memphis decided to call their events Memphicago Footbag Challenges, and up until now they have always been friendly afternoons spent together celebrating the sport of footbag net. But this time around, they've decided to step it up a notch.

Today, the Salem Footbag Club is proud to announce the first-ever Memphicago Open Footbag Net Championships, to be held at Bryan Memorial Park in Salem, IL, on October 8, 2011. This will be an officially sanctioned IFPA event. Player check-in will be at 11 AM.

If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Walt Houston at for more information.

By the way, Salem is only about an hour-and-a-half from St. Louis, MO.
Hope to see you there!
