The Last Few Days

If you've ever run a tournament before, you know that the last few days can be hectic.  Lots of errands, phone calls, last-minute details that you should've thought of weeks ago but just occured to you today, checking the weather, and even worrying about cutting the grass and cleaning the house. (After all, you're expecting company!)

A storm rolled through Chicago yesterday that would have crippled a less resilient city.  This picture was taken in the suburbs just about a mile away from my house:

I watched the funnel clouds gather on my way home from work.  I don't think the twister ever fully-formed or touched down, but the damage was done either way.  My street and most of the neighborhood were underwater due to the speed and severity of the storm.  I knew I would get a call that The Shop was flooding, and sure enough I did.  Getting around was difficult to say the least.

And yet, at the same time, the United Center on Chicago's West Side took in no water while the Blackhawks put in the final dagger against the Tampa Bay Lightning to win their third Stanley Cup in the last six years.  Congratulations Blackhawks!  In stark contrast to the calamity that engulfed the city just hours before, here is a picture of people celebrating the victory in the Wrigleyville neighborhood:

Chicago bounces back quickly.  The city streets were mostly dry on my way to work this morning, and the water in The Shop was nothing a Wet-Vac couldn't handle.  I haven't been over to Humboldt Park yet to see how the grass fared, but it's a big park that will likely dry out before the weekend. And if it doesn't, The Shop is equipped to handle a footbag tournament too.

One way or another, the Windy City Cup is going to follow in the footsteps of the Chicago Blackhawks and deliver nothing less than the best.  We can't wait for you to get here!
